I would not be surprised if those faint smiles and smirks that Ian McKellen and Jane Seymour gave throughout this entire monologue were partially due to them trying not to laugh from Anthony Andrews' HILARIOUS performance. He was so brilliant for the role! 😆

I liked it better than that scene where she was hiccuping and almost sobbing.

Though the scene with Elinor's family is dramatic because of her emotional dike finally breaks, I've always thought the family shuffling out of the room felt weird. The outdoor scene with just Elinor and Edward is visually lovely but lacks the drama. Too bad they didn't merge the two scenes together: just the two of them with Elinor finally letting defenses down and expressing her true emotions about Edward. It's still a fabulous film.

Anthony Andrews' portrayal of Sir Percival is a masterpiece! Once you have seen him in this role you will never forget him... or the way he recites the Poem... the way the women gasp. Sink me! I do believe he stole my heart as soon as he announced the title ❤ Belated Happy Birthday Anthony (Jan. 12)🎉
